Poor pukey boy

Davey, Mommy and Daddy, originally uploaded by jessicafm.

I was up and out of the house before 6 this morning in order to get to the office ahead of the commute traffic. When I stepped out of the shower I heard Davey let out one big cry, but then he was silent, so I didn't dare go in his room before I left, so as not to wake him. Thus, I didn't get to see our sweet little guy this morning.

Mark emailed me at 7:15 to say that he got out of bed shortly after I left the house, and that Davey still wasn't awake. A few minutes later I got an email from Mark saying that he'd gone in and gotten Davey up but that there was puke all over him, the crib and his stuffed wolf (that he's lately taken to snuggling with when he sleeps). Aww, poor little Davey's sick.

Nobody who we ate with yesterday is reporting ill, so it is likely not food poisoning. He must have picked up a virus somewhere over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Mark's home with pukey boy and I'm at the office.

Last report from Mark is that Davey is sitting with Marina, on the sofa, watching Curious George on TV. Marina's making some oats, in hopes that Davey will eat some (he's been rejecting everything else). The Pedialyte pops aren't frozen yet so I called and suggested one of the pineapple popsicles I'd made a couple weeks ago. I was on the phone with Mark when he got the popsicle out and I heard Davey say, "Oooooo!!!!" and then I heard slurping. Gooood.

Davey dancing in the dressing room

Mark, Davey and I went to the listening party for Tree of Life at the Sweetwater Station on Sunday afternoon. Davey danced much of the time there were songs playing from the new album, of course. And, as usual, he was the first one to applaud after the last note of each song. You know, the boy's got rhythm and good taste!

After dinner at the sushi bar down the way, we went back to Sweetwater Station and to the dressing room. Dad was going through a few of the new songs with David LaFlamme to show him the cord progressions and Davey just had to start movin'.

Time to replace the rest of the waste line

Clearing out roots
Originally uploaded by jessicafm
After ever increasing visits from "Greg the Drainman," who's been griding out roots from the 8' of waste line closest to our house, we agreed we'd go ahead and REPLACE that section of old line. We replaced the majority of the waste line a couple years ago, before Davey was born, but we opted to not replace the section that ran underneath the paver patio and flower beds.

It's TIME.

Check out this big patch that Mark found when he dug out the line. Once he cut through the top of the waste pipe with the Sawzall, under the patch he found this huuuuuge mat of roots. In fact, he didn't dare get rid of all the roots as it looked like there would be no pipe left. Instead he just cut a path through it so we can at least use water in the house while we wait for the plumber to replace the line.

Avoiding the smoke outside

Avoiding the smoke outside, originally uploaded by jessicafm.

It's so smoky outside because of the wildfires around the Bay Area that it just seems unhealthy to let Davey play outside. So the indoor Northgate Mall became his playground yesterday.

Mark took Davey to Northgate Mall again a few minutes ago. Yet another day where everything and everywhere smells of smoke. My nose hurts.

Davey's first ride in a Porsche

Driving in our 1958 Speedster in the Squaw Valley parking lot on the last day of the 356 Registry West Coast Holiday. June 22, 2008. Looks like Davey enjoyed it, yes?

Starting to stress out

Sunday morning I'll drive away from the house with my laptop bag and a suitcase, headed for Oakland International Airport, where I'll board the first of two flights to take me to Baltimore, MD. I'll arrive in Baltimore a little before 11pm that night and stay there until flying home at 6:30 on Thursday evening. I'll be there for the annual Usability Professionals Association conference, which should be great. A couple tutorials, a few days of spending time with like-minded professionals, some interesting break-out sessions. I'll get to see a former Autodesk colleague, Rebecca Richkus, who will be attending the conference. And one evening I'll go to Camden Yards to catch an Orioles vs Astros baseball game. Maybe I can get some crab. Maybe I can sleep for 8 uninterrupted hours. Maybe a mani/pedi while on a break?

But I'm not going to be with Davey for all that time. *gack* This will be the first time I've spent a night (much less 5 nights!) away from him.

Cue the freak-out starting... NOW.

A festivus weekend!

Wavy Gravy, Davey and I, originally uploaded by jessicafm.

Uh, maybe not Festivus, but festival full, warm, musical and very fun. Sadly, Mark lost out on our fun as he was in LA for an annual car show -- getting to do what he thinks is fun.

The Novato Art & Wine Festival was held over the weekend, running town the street behind our home. Davey and I went over for a while early Saturday afternoon, buying a cute shirt for him, some snacks (for him) and listening to the bands that were playing. After a while it was just getting too hot so we headed home. On the way back, Davey was enthralled with two fire engines parked along the street. A very nice Novato Fire Fighter talked with Davey for a little while and gave him an "honorary junior fire fighter" badge. Happy Davey!

Then, as it was hot, we went to the back yard where the willow tree casts plenty of shade this time of year, filled up the wading pool and Davey ran around naked for a couple hours, happy as can be. Hanging out in the back yard we could hear the band playing at the festival, only a block away. The Journey cover band (apparently all black?) sounded so spot on, if I didn't know a cover band was scheduled on the bill, I would have thought it was the original band, including Steve Perry.

After Davey's dinner we headed back over to the festival to meet up with Linda and dance to the English Beat. They were GREAT! Davey was dancing and did a little bit of pogo-dancing, even.

Today, Sunday, Dad picked Davey and I up and we rode with him to the Harmony Festival in Santa Rosa. Jefferson Starship was on the bill at 2pm and we got there maybe by 1 or so? This was Davey's 2nd time at a concert, the first since he began walking (and dancing). The atmosphere back stage was relaxed and comfortable and Davey could run around. For the show we stood on the stage, behind or to the side of the band. At first I held Davey and danced. Eventually I put him down and he had a great time dancing, checking out other kids, flirting with people, applauding and hooting at the appropriate times. All in all, it was a LOT of fun!
