The Poop : Long, slow evolution of a bad parent
Gosh... I can see it happening to us. I didn't change any diapers while at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Lahaina, but I'll certainly breastfeed anywhere, anytime, these days...

Our little Giants fan
Davey, Jackie and I went to AT&T Park on Saturday to watch the Giants beat the Yankees. The weather was absolutely perfect, Davey didn't seem to mind and the Giants won. Most excellent! While there, we also got a certificate for Davey's first Giants game (back-dated to the Opening Day game this year) and we visited Build-a-Bear for Davey to get his newest stuffed toy: JT, the seal.
By the way -- check out the RAD booties Davey's wearing. They were a hand-made gift from Auntie Jackie!

Yeah, look at him stand!
It's been a little while since there was a Davey update, yeah? I'll make this kind of short, as his 9 month check-up is next week and I bet I'll post a pretty good write-up then.
Over the past couple days, Davey's been crawling atop boxes and finding ways to pull himself up to standing. As you can see from this picture, the lure of seeing his bouncy seat from a different angle was too much to resist. Last night he figured out how to pull himself up and balance himself upon it. He was elated, bouncing up and down as he thwacked the hanging toys.
Earlier in the day we went to my mom's house for her to watch him while I worked. It was forecast to be a hot day so going to Mom's, where the house is cooler and she has a pool, seemed like a nice idea, since I didn't have a great need for high-speed internet for the day. We found out a couple things:
1) Davey REALLY likes apricots. There were 3 Blenheim apricots ripe on the tree, dripping with juices. Davey happily gummed about 1/4 of an apricot in to oblivion.
2) Davey still loves to swim. When I was done working, he and I got in the pool with the floatie that Mom recently bought for him. While the floatie was kinda fun, he was more thrilled with being held by me and swimming around. He LOVES it. Swim lessons begin next week!
Foods Davey likes now:
* Trader Joe's Organic O's (cereal)
* Pineapple (and homemade pineapple popsicles)
* Apricots
* Bananas
* Sweet potatoes
* Broccoli
* Apple juice (to which I add some water and rice cereal)
* Orange juice
* Barley teething biscuits
* Puffed brown rice cakes
I'm beginning to think that what he really doesn't like is mashed food. That is, he doesn't like baby food! If he can feed it to himself and/or he can gum it, he likes it. None of that mushy stuff tho. Well... okay! We'll continue experimenting with organic veggies... maybe some steamed squash comes next. When's it okay to try out cottage cheese and proteins?

Someone likes broccoli!
Okay, we now know what Davey likes to eat (so far):
*Pineapple (pieces or in (homemade) popsicle form)
*Applesauce
*Pureed pears
*Applejuice (diluted with water and with rice cereal added)
*Banana (in chunks he can feed himself)
*Broccoli!!
Anything else is touch and go (or maybe just go). If he can feed himself, he likes it much more. Since he still is toothless, this is a trick, but it's fun.
And it's fun hosing him off after each meal. ;-)

Naked after swimming at Ho'okipa beach
It took a little experimenting every day of our trip, but by the 2nd to last day of our trip, Davey went swimming in the ocean. At first he was a little timid, but as I held him in my arms and we bounced up and down in the water, he eventually warmed to the experience and started smiling and laughing. Because I wasn't sure if he'd go swimming, he was wearing his regular diapers. By the time we were done with 10 minutes of swimming, he was in a gigantic, puffy diaper. Once back in the shade, on his towel, I just stripped the boy bare, to dry out. You KNOW he loved that!
Of course, then he rolled around on the towel and was eventually encrusted with coarse sand... an encrusted pee-pee! Yes, more swimming, this time naked, was in order. It was the only way to get all that sand off before putting on his diaper and running the likely risk of chafing the poor little guy. Skinny-dipping... yes, he loved that even more!
He's gonna be a fish...
